Why a 3 Breath Hug is Better Than Wine

Two summers ago I was dropping Macy off at the airport to spend 2 weeks in remote parts of Peru. This was a wildly traumatic experience…. for me!!  Kenny’s family all traveled as they were growing up, so he wasn’t too flustered by it. But the thought of sending my 14 year old daughter off to South America with no way to contact her was pretty, shall I say, foreign to me.😊

As I was walking her to the gate, I was doing everything in my power to keep it together.  I felt like I needed to hold my s#*! together for her. Then came go time, that moment she was boarding the plane, and I would be left alone.  While I was trying to be strong, so was she. Finally, we both got teary.  As we did, we leaned into each other, she looked up at me with tears in her eyes and said, “Mom, do you need a 3 Breath Hug?"

To backtrack, when my kids were young, and they would have a tantrum or meltdown of some kind or another, a 3 breath hug was our go-to technique to get them past their emotional outburst. Simply, we would hug each other, and take 3 long, deep breaths together. Now, so many years later, it was still serving as a remarkably valuable tool to get us through a really difficult moment.

Watch the video above to learn the top 3 reasons a 3 breath hug is so powerful, and why, believe it or not, it is better than wine!
